Gyres: Unbelievable Documentary on the Great Ocean Garbage Patch
As if there weren’t enough problems for the ocean such as acidification which threatens to eradicate all crustaceans over the next 40 years, the pacific gyre garbage patch is such a bleak and immense problem, that at first glance, one can’t help but wish it wasn’t really true.
Come aboard as the VBS crew takes a cruise to the Northern Gyre in the Pacific Ocean, a spot where currents spin and cycle, churning up tons of plastic into a giant pool of chemical soup, flecked with bits and whole chunks of refuse that cannot biodegrade. TENTHMIL has been writing about this issue often since we’ve launched. Over this time, I have seen plenty of good documentaries about our environment. But this one, provided by VBS.TV/ took me by complete surprise. A small bad of writers teemed up with Capt. Charles Moore to explore the the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, an island of filth often referred to as a ‘floating landfill twice the size of Texas’. Part 1:
