Our Political & Energy Dinosaurs
In Australia, as in other developed and developing nations, we are stuck in the past with old technology for energy generation that is polluting and suffocating the life of our planet.
Governments have the means – but not the will – to advance sustainable energy technologies. Global investments in Solar, Wind and Geo-thermal energy need to benefit from subsidy shifts leading away from heavily polluting coal fired power stations. This change in our living as usual (dinosaur) business model would lead our world to a more sustainable future.
Presently, around 4.65 billion tonnes of coal is burnt to produce electricity in the world’s coal-fired power stations. By 2020, a 50 % projected increase in global demand will put consumption up to 9.3 billion tonnes annually. We need these dinosaurs to become extinct if we are to curb the emissions of climate changing greenhouse gases.
The time to act is now. Call upon our world leaders to stop being dinosaurs, stop using the finite dinosaur energy sources, and visit the Climate Institute to pledge your support.
The Greenhouse Neutral Foundation supports the work of the Climate Institute and its affiliate supporters, the World Wildlife Fund and the Australian Conservation Foundation.
