Climate change is coming to you as it did to a dear friend of mine.

Denise RussoDenise Russo is a tireless worker for others in need. Her efforts for Thirst Aid Live are testament to how single individuals can and are making a difference in the troubled world we live in and the Foundation honors her.

We are all faced with the fierce urgency of the need to act on climate change as it will not discriminate who it affects or when and where it will strike.

Denise her husband Quinn and children Olivia and Vincent have experienced first hand the devastating effects of climate change. Will you be next? Will I?

Read her email to friends below and see if you can reach out a hand to help Denise and her family who have lost all to the ravages of flood.

Dear friends:

As many of you already know, on Mon September 21, our home, my car, and our town were drastically affected by a debilitating flood in Austell, GA. In fact, to date, the estimated damages throughout metro Atlanta exceed $1bil, and in my town alone – 1/2 the population (now up to 2500 residents) – are temporarily homeless, including us.

As I watched the waters quickly rise, I had no idea that by late afternoon, my car and the kids’ school would be totally submerged under water, or that we would lose the majority of our personal belongings and our home in such a devastating way. In fact, on Tue Sept 22, I got a personal gondolier ride for my birthday….in a canoe…to my front door. Waters exceeded 9 feet in my home and many of my neighbors had water all the way to their rooftops. Hundreds of cars, including mine, were destroyed, and belongings and memories floated for blocks.

The recovery efforts have been tremendous over the past 16 days. We have met and visited with volunteers nationwide who have come to our aid. The house is now down to studs. That’s it. The various estimates for the damages in my home are now about $80K. That is before we replace any carpet or personal belongings, or replace my car.

ole2As we continue to rebuild our lives – we have been asked by many of you, how to send financial donations.

There are three things that would be easiest and most helpful to us:

1. You can send gift cards – for anything. We have had to eat out for all meals (all 4 of us) since we are living in hotels and temporary housing. We can use Visa Gift Cards, Walmart, Target, restaurants, etc. Anything is appreciated.

2. You can mail a check. If you do this, please send it to me, Denise Russo, and put in the subject line, ”Flood Relief”

3. You can send money from your debit card, credit card, or otherwise through www.paypal.com Our account name is drusso@successfactors.com. IF YOU DO THIS – On the home page, you click on “send money” and make sure you put that you are sending a PERSONAL GIFT for tax purposes since you are not buying anything from us. We have already received some donations through Paypal and the process is very easy and secure.

We appreciate your prayers, kind notes, and thoughts while we move through this obstacle.

Our mailing address if you’d like to send gift cards, checks or letters to the kids is:
Denise Russo and family
Attn: Flood Relief
2918 Egret Lane
Austell GA 30106

FInally – the kids’ school, Clarkdate Elementary school (you can google it) was completely submerged and destroyed. The children have received new school supplies so the school is not asking for any of that. What they DO need are donations like hats, gloves, jackets since the weather is cooling off, as well as holiday gifts for the kids since most of them lost their homes, all their toys, clothes, and more…If you want to send something directly to MY kids…Olivia is turning 8 Oct 17 and Vincent just turned 5.

Thank you so much for your support.

Truly yours,

Denise Quinn Olivia and Vincent
The Greenhouse Neutral Foundation will also accept donations to help Denise and her family you can DONATE HERE. ………. All donations will go directly to Denise and her family.
